POLITICAL PARTIES VISIT TOUR
During the meeting, in the light of the events that took place after the process that started in 2013 and ended, it was expressed that individuals who played a role in the process, including those who visited Imralı, should be legally protected. In addition, visits to political parties are planned to be made to receive suggestions and seek support for legalizing the process.
Sources from the DEM Party argue that during this period of discussing constitutional amendments, it is not inclusive to only have the expression “Turkish nation.” The Party suggests the establishment of a special framework that will bring the process to a legal and judicial ground with the participation of all political parties under the leadership of the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
The DEM sources call for the government to act in accordance with the legislation, comply with ECtHR and Constitutional Court decisions, put an end to arbitrary practices of Prison Observation Boards, release Gezi convict Can Atalay and recognize his parliamentary membership, and abolish the trustee practices.
However, it is especially emphasized that these steps are not seen as a prerequisite.
JUDICIAL PACKAGE ON THE AGENDA
The DEM Party suggests that judicial packages could come quickly during this process, indicating that there could be more than one package. While expecting a regulation regarding ill prisoners and convicts, an enforcement regulation, a regulation ending the practices in Observation Administration Boards, and a change in the relevant article of the Turkish Penal Code, which was twice annulled by the Constitutional Court, in order to punish those who commit crimes on behalf of the organization without being a member of the terrorist organization. Party sources believe that the first judicial package expected to come to the Turkish Grand National Assembly will be postponed after the Feast of Sacrifice.
EXPECTATION OF AMNESTY
However, increasing inter-party contacts and focusing on activities inside and outside the Parliament are aimed.
Sources from the DEM Party argue that the government has created an expectation of amnesty in the recent years in prisons, emphasizing the rapid preparation of judicial packages to meet the expectations of the convicts.
